Okay, the image is not my creation, I am just visiting it on Photoshop.
AIDS day, when I think of it, I think of the radio advert song of Dhal on Radio Nepal and its respective tele ad with a dancing condom. A catchy tune I must say. Ask anyone from 90's KTM and they can recognise the tune "Ma surakshya-ko lagi Hajir chhu". And then there were ads for Panther, usually a popular Nepali movie song which would be juxtaposed on a condom ad. "Laideu Laideu Maya Laideu" or more famously "Jhilke dai chha chaina condom".
I remember as a kid, we used to sing these songs on playgrounds, only to see adults' red-faces. It did not help that the ad would play first thing in the morning, right amidst the religious mantra chants on national radio.
On serious note, however, people are still unaware of AIDS and HIV infection. If you do not know, HIV - Human Immuno Deficiency Virus, kills the immune system of one's body, thus making them prone to any disease or infection. Think the cold you are getting is bad, the cold an HIV patient gets can kill them. HIV does not kill, it just lets one's guard down. With proper care, HIV patients have been known to live long.
Anyways, I guess the better news is, Nepal for being a third world country is doing pretty good in HIV awareness. Lots of youth are participating on these programs, led by good organisations. Kudos to them All. It is not much of a taboo anymore to talk about, public is opening up. And I am proud.
The image below is the social initiative poster for use of Condoms. I however, am proud to re-visit it on photoshop and illustrator. Be Aware. Also I have provided the PSD here, download and use.
